Building the NanoXRP

The NanoXRP is a compact version of the XRP robot — smaller chassis, single-cell LiPo battery, and the Cytron NanoXRP board in place of the full-size controller. This page covers the parts that come with the kit and the steps to assemble it.

The NanoXRP is currently only available in select countries outside of the US. In the future, it may be available more broadly.

Hardware Overview

  • Chassis: 3D printed chassis forms the core of the robot.

  • Wheels and Caster Balls: Wheels mount to N20 motors for motion, caster balls provide minimal ground friction.

  • Bottom Plate: Used to hold the electronics in the robot, snaps in place.

  • Battery cover: Protects battery, stabilizes sonar sensor.

Electronics



  • Cytron NanoXRP Board: Purple PCB is the brain of the NanoXRP robot.

  • Battery: 100mAh single cell lipo battery powers the NanoXRP.

  • Motors and Motor Wires: Encodered N20 motors provide locomotion and angle sensing.

  • Sonar Sensor: Blue PCB allows precise distance sensing.

Assembly Tutorial



Objective

This tutorial will guide you through assembling your NanoXRP Robot!

Steps


Grab the motor wires and the NanoXRP Board. Connect the motor wires to the Left and Right motor ports. Be sure that the connectors are facing the right way! Or you may damage the pins.

Take the battery and plug it into the NanoXRP board.

Press the Wheels onto the motor shafts. The wheel nub should face the motor. You may need to press hard, do not push on the encoder magnet wheel.

Flip the chassis over. Press the caster balls and the motors into the chassis. Make sure that the encoder ports are facing down, like in the image above.

To attach the NanoXRP board to the chassis start by flipping the chassis upright. Guide the motor wires up through the rear wheel wells, and the battery through the middle of the robot. No wires should be pinched.

Once the board is in place, you can clip it in with the bottom plate. It should snap into place. Look for the line following sensors to make sure the orientation is right.

Now that the bottom plate is clipped in, you can plug the motor wires into the motors.

Plug the Sonar sensor into the NanoXRP board. Be gentle with the 4 pin dupont connector on the board. The sonar sensor should slide into the chassis.

Clip the battery cover into the top of the chassis and slide it forward so it is snug with the sonar sensor. Congratulations, your robot is fully assembled!
